"Dos Erres" Update

Related Episode

We have an update on our episode from last May, "What Happened at Dos Erres," about the massacre by the Guatemalan army of an entire village in 1982. ProPublica, our partner in reporting the story, has uncovered information about one of the soldiers who is wanted by authorities for participating in the massacre, retired Col. César Adán Rosales Batres. ProPublica found that Batres was living for years in a wealthy, gated community in Guatemala and even served as president of a neighborhood association despite the fact that the massacre charges against him were public. When investigators started looking for him, however, he disappeared and is still at large. You can read more about Batres and the status of the investigation into Dos Erres here.
